WIGGLING PIG TAIL HD

To keep you busy while I sort out my China pictures, and buy a new hard-disk to store them on... Shot with the Panasonic GH1 plus standard zoom lens while traveling in China, in a tiny village near Inner Mongolia. Interesting how the auto-focus screwed up and focused on the background. Perhaps it simply focuses on the middle part of the frame. Manual is still the way to go I guess, perhaps as it should be.

Sold Leica M8, bought Panasonic GH1.

(Welcome to my new experiments section!)

Why would anybody sell his Leica M8 to buy an arguably inferior Panasonic GH1? For me there were 3 main reasons:

  1. Video
  2. Money
  3. It's still a little bit Leica, because I can use Leica lenses

I wanted a video camera that can film with Leica lenses, and I wanted to go on vacation to China. By selling my M8, I got money for both.

(For even a bigger size video, click on the youtube logo. When you do, also enable HD at the bottom of the window!)

One day after buying the GH1, I made this shot of a cat with the Leica Summicron (sounds like a transformer, but it's actually a lens).
Importing the video was easy with Final Cut Pro, which converted it to ProRes format. Then I did a little image adjustment in Apple Color.

It was hard for me to keep the shot in focus. Not only was it hand-held, I was also trying to repel an army of mosquitoes that was coming for my legs. Since the GH1 shoots in 60P, I could slow down the video 50%, which softens the camera shaking somewhat.

Will post more samples soon.
